On March 8, 1764, Obadiah Ayers deeded to eight Trustees, including Daniel and Samuel Landon, the tract on which the Presbyterian Church at Musconetcong (Hackettstown) had already been built. It adjoined on the southwest land owned by his brother William. 3, 1770, Daniel Landon "yeoman, of Hardwick Township, received a deed from Obadiah Ayers for 200 acres at the north end of the large tract and back from the river, the consideration being stated as Ł50. From the form in which the deed was witnessed and acknowledged it may be inferred that Daniel Landon went to Trenton for the purpose and that some of the heirs signed there. On July 3, 1754, Daniel Landon Jr (1719-abt.1774) "witnessed a deed of the heirs of Thomas Lambert to his stepfather, Obadiah Ayers. Subsequent records show a close relationship with her sons. Dorothy (Holdridge) Ayers (1699-abt.1748) was his second wife. His second marriage was to a widow, Dorothy Landon there is a marriage license dated for Obadiah Ayers of Somerset County and Dorothy Landol of Somerset County. Obediah Ayers first married Elizabeth Compton. This is the conclusion drawn in a 1935 article published in the The Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey on the Landon Family of New Jersey. He purchased there in 1728 one hundred and fifty-three acres of James Alexander, and in 1731 his father conveyed to him as one of the seven trustees of Basking Ridge Presbyterian congregation land for church purposes.
